No one’s expecting you to do that. There are professional stunt actors who are already trained to do your stunts. And I simply do not care whether it’s them or you that I see in the shot.
Do you think it adds reality to the movie? It doesn’t. People who make jumps like that don’t look like that. They look like they’ve just shat themselves.
Do you think you’re adding verisimilitude to the shot? I already know the movie’s not real. I can usually determine whether or not a movie’s real within the first 10 minutes. Opening credits are a dead giveaway, real life doesn’t have opening credits. Real life also doesn’t have people who can make those jumps without looking like they’ve shat themselves.
Imagine if you said “I do all my own catering”. Not just your own meals, but for everyone on set. Don’t get me wrong, that would be very sweet of you - markedly more selfless than someone who simply insisted on doing their own stunts - but the studio already has a caterer. And the caterer is already trained up. Are you also trained up in the preparation of food in accordance with the strict and mandatory regulations that govern an entire industry?? Or is that something we’re going to have to get the existing caterer to help you with?
Imagine if it was me who was trying to make that jump. People wouldn’t think it was cool. People would point at me and shout: “Hey. You. Stop that. Get down from there.”
And they’d be right to do so. Because I shouldn’t be up there. If I fall, I’m going to make a mess.
The same can be said of you. What makes you think you should be up there instead of me? Are you more qualified because you’re rich? Because you’re handsome? Am I simply too poor and ugly to do my own stunts? Is it a societal issue?
Perhaps.
